This video starts half way through the process of updating as I just forget to start videoing… Sorry! Anyway it shows the upgrade process and the software used to perform the upgrade. The Hytera X1p appears to have an ARM CPU which is why it’s so versatile. This radio was new about 2 weeks ago and shipped with old version 5 firmware! It’s a good idea to keep DMR radios up to date if you want access to the latest repeaters and compatibility. After the update you need to use the latest CPS and read the code plug from the radio in order to access new features. Hytera radio usually require 2 separate leads, one for programming via CPS and one for firmware updating. The x1p however has a dual function lead with a switch that you can use to select either CPS or Firmware update mode. In firmware update mode just connect the lead to the radio and move the switch to firmware mode then power on the radio. The screen on the radio is blank but the PC software recognises the radio is in loader mode and will allow you to perform the upgrade. The firmware uploaded in this video is version V7.00.11.010 and we’ve found the following upgrades…. Bluetooth is vastly improved, connection for headsets is more stable, there’s an extra icon on the screen to show Bluetooth connectivity, also there’s a new discoverable mode which makes the device visible – this is mainly for indoor location tracking. I think Some new menu items have appeared in the radio under the settings option, a shortcut to audio settings which is nice. There’s now the ability in the CPS to change the data compression type to non Hytera specific DMR standard, this allows the Hytera radios to receive text messages (and other data) from standard DMR spec radios (Chinese Radios like Tytera maybe?) anyway there’s probably more improvements but we will Continue exploring… It would be nice if they could increase the contact list memory capacity so we could store all the DMR IDs (currently in the U.K. It’s running at about 1400) anyway hope it’s useful… Questions welcome in the comments.
