Crown and Glory Tag Transcript
Hey Guys…and welcome to my Crowned Curly Tag! This is my very first protective style challenge that I’m doing on youtube, and basically I’m keeping my hair in a protective style from June 22nd until up until September 22nd or 21st or something like that.
The first question in the tag was actually…what’s my hair length–my current hair length? And I’ll just go ahead and describe it for you. It’s like 1 inch below my collar bone. I will cut to a picture right now so you guys can see my stretched hair, but the whole reason that I can’t stretch it out now is because I’ve already styled my hair in box braids and a ponytail attached for the actual challenge. I had to do this early because I will be out of town on June 22nd. I’m actually going to the Charleston Natural Hair Expo.
The second question in the tag is actually…what’s my summer hair goal for this challenge? And I have two. Of course I want healthy hair. That’s the main thing. I want to make sure that my ends are thick and healthy and my hair is growing and I’m retaining length. The second one is more of a length goal. I want my hair to be at APL or Arm Pit Length.
The third question in this tag is all about my current hair regimen, and I’m actually modifying this regimen because my hair is in box braids. The first thing that I want to let you know is that I’m going to wash my hair every 2 weeks. I’m going to redo my box braids after 6 more weeks and apply another set of box braids and by that time this part of the challenge will be over. I am going to do a new protective style every season, and it’ll be a different type, hopefully. Some of the products I will be using: For my shampoo, I am using LoReal’s Ever Cream Sulfate free Moisture System, and it’s the Intense Nourishing Shampoo, and in addition to this, I’m going to be using Tressemme Naturals Nourishing Moisturizing Conditioner. A lot of naturals rave about this and I actually love this product a LOT! I am going to make sure that when I apply these to my box braids that I put a little bit in an actual spray bottle and I’m going to dilute them and apply them and rinse them out. Of course this will be in a separate spray bottle and this will be in a separate bottle. I’m not going to worry about deep conditioning and I know that sounds bad but I really don’t want to dilute the deep conditioners that I have. Every morning and every night (so twice a day), I’m going to be spritzing my hair with water and then sealing the moisture in with coconut oil. And I’m also going to be applying ORS’s Fertilizing Temple balm to my edges because that’s a trouble spot for me.
The next question in the tag is basically asking you to share a natural hair tip with other naturals, and the main one that I’ve learned over my 3 years of being naturals is don’t be afraid of scissors. You have to trim your hair–especially if your hair is fine like mine. We are at risk for too many single strand knots and the mechanical wear and tear of combing, brushing even finger detangling is a little too much for my hair. And I have learned the hard way. You need to trim a little by little so that when you get your hair straightened or you get something done where you need to stretch it out, your ends won’t have to be clipped so much because I’ve even gone to the beautician and she had to chop off an inch, inch and a half because my ends were just that busted so…Just learn from my mistakes and trim your hair!
The last part of the tag is to tag 3 other naturals that you wouldn’t mind seeing join you on this protective style journey and for me, I would love to see…
So if you’re interested in joining….of you happened to have been tagged and you want to find our more about this challenge, you can go to my other video. I’ll post a link in the description bar as well as on the screen somewhere and you can make your very own Crowned Curly Tag. And make sure you leave it as a video response to the actual challenge video. Alright guys…Happy Hair Growing and I hope to see a few naturals join this challenge… Again it starts on June 22nd!
