Installation tutorial for Tranquility synthetic laminate flooring. This is a semi-flexible and water resistant material which installs a lot like Pergo and other laminate flooring. It is highly recommended for installations where there could be a moisture problem. I am going to be adding this to the playlist on survival retreat and off grid cabin construction because this is one of the flooring options that I highly recommend for that type of application.
This material works well for both high traffic and low maintenance applications. Disadvantages compared to traditional wood flooring include some limitations on room shape, design, and this material cannot be refinished. It also provides no additional structural integrity to a floor and very little insulating value compared to real wood.
In comparison to tile flooring, it is a much faster installation, has no seams to worry about finishing differently, and is more temperature stable. It is not as water tolerant as tile but is more water tolerant than other materials. It is not as durable as tile to abrasive wear, but is far more durable to sharp impact.
Costs vary but tend to hover in the $1.80-$2.60 per square foot range for the material, and $1-$2.50 per square foot for installation. This material will usually going to require thin padding underneath. This work does not normally require any sort of permit in most areas since it is not of a structural or utility service nature.
