This video shows two driveway lantern elements cycling 4 different effects patterns independently but synced using NRF24L01+ radio modules. Strip wiring was incorrectly wired backwards on one element throwing off addressing to offer mirrored effects. Another prototype will probably be built, or can be compensated for in code on either element.
Modules and devices used on each element…
WS2812B RGB LED strips (8 strips of 4 LED’s wired in serial).
NRF24L01+ on one, same of the other but with an external antenna.
Pro Mini ATMEGA328P 5v 16 MHz.
NRF24 breakout board with built-in 3.3v regulator.
5v 3a switching power adapter.
One element is powered by USB through a USB/SERIAL programming adapter, one is powered by the power adapter.
Also, one element has an additional 4 LED strip connected and fed into the PVC pipe. I left this in but it was just to test the data output connector of the element, and to test dual zone effects processing in the same effects function.
Library packages used…
FastLED 3.1 (http://fastled.io)
Effects fade processing is handled in a called IRQ handler courtesy of the TimerOne library (THANKS PAUL!). The WS2812B strip refresh is handled in the main loop via software timer variables, as is the effects transitioning and setup although triggered by the IRQ handler on the TX element. When an FX effect is transitioned, the TX element sends the effect number to the RX element via wireless link, setting that element to the same effect.
Fade rates are static at this time but will be variable in the next version. Also, fade-in’s are not supported yet, just fade-out’s. I haven’t figured out how to do that with the FastLED library… yet.
