GridMAX ceiling grid covers are the alternative to replacing or repainting rusted or discolored metal ceiling grid. Installation of GridMAX is an easy, one person job which can be installed up to 5,000 square feet per day. GridMAX has been proven to be the low cost alternative to replacement or painting while extending the life cycle of the existing system. The ease and speed of installation means that downtown is kept to a minimum. Less down time equals less opportunity loss and more production. GridMAX is available in a wide range of colors to match or enhance the facility’s appearance.
Keeping the professional or novice installer in mind, the components are pre-cut and pre- notched providing an out of box installation.
With its Class A rating under ASTM E84 GridMAX meets the fire rating required for interior building products. The installation begins with grid layout. Understanding which grid components will be used in each different layout will simplify each installation. A 2×2 grid and tile layout will require 4 foot molding covers, 4 foot main covers and 2 foot tee covers. With this layout, it is suggested that the 4 foot main covers be installed every 2 feet on center. The 2 foot tees will then be installed perpendicular to the main covers. Accordingly, no 4 foot tee covers are required on a 2×2 layout. The 4 foot main covers should always run parallel to the 4 foot side of the lights.
A 2×4 grid and tile layout will require 4 foot molding covers, 4 foot main covers and 4 foot tee covers. The main covers will be installed 4 feet on center and intersected by the 4 foot tee covers. Unlike a 2×2 layout, the 4 foot main covers will run perpendicular to the 4 foot side of the lights.
First install the wall moldings. Continue the process until you finish the exterior of the ceiling. When you have finished with the wall moldings, you need to select your starting point. This is where you will install your first whole main. Working back toward the wall, cut the next main cover to fit the border. Grid MAX is made of high grade vinyl which is easy to cut with a nips. When this is done, you’re ready to snap on additional mains. Installing 2 foot tee covers completes the job.
The process for installing 2×4 grids is similar. Install the wall molding covers, pick your starting point, snap on your main covers 4 foot on center, then install the 4-foot tee covers perpendicular to the mains.
Here’s a few tips to make the process even quicker:
When you’re dealing with wall molding with rivets you have 2 options. First, you can pre notch the molding for a perfect fit. Or you can drill out the rivet. Always consult the local inspectors for any seismic code requirements with rivets.
If you need to deal with variable size moldings, it may be necessary to trim the moldings to fit. Some shadow line or revealed edge tiles will not work with GridMAX. Check with the manufacturer.
For maximum flexibility, GridMAX is manufactured in 3 different sizes: 9/16”, 15/16” and 1” widths to insure an exact fit. Always double check the actual metal grid width prior to installation.
GridMAX is the low-cost solution.
