Decoding the NSW GRN (only slight snippet of audio – gotta stay legal!) using two $20 usb sticks normally used for watching TV on the computer
Sticks can be purchased here from ebay for around $20: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/330992010861?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Satellite booster (you MUST modify this to elimenate phantom power or you’ll blow up your usb sticks!
Open the back of this with a can opener (serious!! – its easy!) and cut the fine trace leading off the big one that zigs and zags away from the F socket. Do this at both ends. To supply power to the booster, solder ground to the large pad above the zig zag trace, and +5 to +6V to the pad below it. Either set of pads is fine.
Software can be gained from this link: http://www.sharebeast.com/xbg4j9r637zl
First off DO NOT install the TV software that comes with the stick. This will mess everything up. You went and bought the sticks to listen to radio broadcasts right?
Secondly, computers are RF noise generators. I HIGHLY suggest purchasing a usb hum like I have – this gets the sticks away from the computer, and its noisy RF environment. Another option is to wrap the sticks in alfoil, which stops noise getting in through the plastic case.
Installation directions will come shortly. I need to install office LOL
