While considering how to paint a room in your home, be sure to watch our helpful video made in association with Sherwin-Williams. Liesel, from Sherwin-Williams, has divided the painting process into three different stages to help you.
One of the best painting ideas and the first stage is preparation. After you decide on the right shade for your room, log on the Sherwin-William site. They have a simple online calculator that helps you with the quantity of paint needed. While wondering how to paint a room, all you have to do is measure the height and width of every wall you wish to paint along with the height and width of any doors and windows. Enter the information on the online tool to know exactly how much paint you’ll need. Other great painting ideas from Sherwin-Williams include the project checklist. The list has everything you need to finish a painting project successfully.
Next, remove all the furniture and drapes before painting. For painting the ceiling, cover light fixtures with plastic wrap and painter’s tape. Other preparatory painting ideas include protecting trim on doors and windows with painter’s tape and removing face plates. Give the wall a final brush to ensure a uniform and smooth finish.
Stage two of how to paint a room is application. Start with the ceiling as the paint may spatter on the walls. Next, paint a border with a paint brush around windows, doors, corners, baseboards and where the walls meet the ceiling. Paint two square feet sections at a time with a paint roller. The next step is painting the window trims and door trims. Work on the doors the last as you won’t mar the paint while coming in and out of the room. While applying a second coat of paint, let the first coat dry for about four hours.
The third stage of the painting process is the cleanup. Clean your brushes with detergent and warm water. Next, clean any excess paint on the top of the can and wrap with cellophane. Use a mallet to firmly tap the lid down. Dispose unused paint responsibly.
