Learn how to utilize the Dremel 4000 rotary tool to remove finish from contoured wood trim.
Removing the finish from intricately shaped surfaces like crown molding or wood trim can be difficult to-do without damaging the materials surface. For this project we’re using the Dremel 4000 tool along with the 36 Grit Abrasive Brush along with the EZ471SA. This project can also be completed by using any Dremel Variable or Two-Speed Rotary tool.
Turn your tool on and using light pressure, run the tool over the surface that you wish to restore. Make sure to never run the tool at more than 15,000 RPM when using these accessories. Gently move the brush between the contours and the work piece’s surface. The detail abrasive brushes have various grit concentrations embedded into their bristles, to make their material removal easier. Able to conform to complex shapes, these accessories when used with care can finish extremely intricate surfaces without damaging the work piece.
Here are some other thoughts grout removal. The tips of these accessories do the work. Applying excess pressure will cause premature wear to the bristles and could cause them to break off, especially when working with corners. Dremel has other bristle brushes, brass brushes, stainless steel brushes, and nylon brushes to assist in paint and rust removal. For a removal of finish on flat surfaces, try sanding drums and flap wheels.
