Please find this product at http://absupply.net/searchfast.aspx?videoid=3J-t8ilcrUY This video is to bring you a closer look at the National Guard Products 5025B brown TPE double batwing self-adhesive seal. The idea with those double fins is a lot of surface area making contact with the door when it closes. 5025 is representative of the fact that this is a weather stripping with a self-adhesive tape. Double batwing style specifically meant by that 5025 part number. The B means that it’s in the brown finish. There is a link below this video to the product brochure which is really handy because it shows, not only this item and the colors it’s available in (brown, charcoal, white, and clear), but it also shows the sister products related to this from National Guard. So that you can make the best informed decision whether or not this is appropriate for your application. This material is used in installations where you have a requirement for smoke and draft control. So this material has a flexible thermoplastic elastomer fin TPE. It’s very pliable, but you get the impression that it’s quite heavy duty as well. It’s a rigid PVC backer back here. It’s very rigid, it doesn’t bend very easily, and it’s used for those sorts of installations where you have those requirements, smoke draft control, or just weather stripping. 1/2″ x 1/2″. This happens to be just like a 6″ sample piece. Available in those lengths that are listed on the product brochure as well. So you’ve got 3′, 4′, 6′, 7′, 8′, even 9′ lengths, but keep in mind 9′ lengths, that’s gonna be an issue in terms of shipping it because of the length, it’s not something that can go ground or package service, it’d have to go tractor trailer sort of situation. From the link below the product brochure, you’re also going to see a link to the installation instructions. I’ve installed this material and it’s really easy to install, meaning that you can get really good results in a short amount of time, and given the fact that the material is relatively inexpensive to begin with, it’s a good choice for a lot of applications. Step 1, surface temperature of the frame must be above 50*F for the adhesive to bond. Clean the frame to make sure that it’s free of any dust, debris, particulate, residual solvents, paints, if it’s been painted it’s gotta be thoroughly cured. It’s so important that the material even included with an alcohol wipe. Wax coated or high gloss painted surface may require roughening of the surface with a scotch-brite pad or sandpaper so the adhesive will properly bond. You might come in with a real small strip of some sort of abrasive, rough it up a little bit, clean it of the debris, give yourself additional surface area for the adhesive to do its thing. Measure and pre-cut the pieces to fit the jams and header. You’re even gonna want to miter those to get a real nice finished job. I like to do the header first so that I can get the tightest, cleanest margin at the inside corner of the heads and jams, and then the bottom, since you don’t see that nearly as much, it’s a little less critical for what I’ve done. Step 4, remove protective backing 1′ to 2′ at a time. I prefer to work with a much smaller amount exposed of my adhesive because I don’t want to unintentionally bump it onto the frame, don’t want to have to pull it off. You need to be able to get it fit right into the inside corner between the face of the stop and the rabbit. I find working with a smaller amount exposed, I can get a better quality installation. Step 5, proceed with installation. Step 6, adhere by pressing firmly. You’re gonna want to push real hard to get this on, straight down the entire length of gasketing. Do not remove and relocate. This rigid PVC backer is not gonna stretch, but you just want to push it onto the frame. Make sure the seal does not impede the proper door closing and latching of the door. After you’re job is done, make sure that the door still works properly in terms of it being self-closing and self-latching. You’re installing this because it’s a smoke or draft control door and it’s required that it be self-closing and self-latching. If you’ve installed this so that the door is no longer compliant, it’s like not even having weather stripping to begin with because it’s no longer compliant. Now National Guard is a full line manufacturer of all things weather stripping related, focusing on that commercial category in doing it very well, meaning utility per dollar, their ability to ship reliably, predictably, even kind of pull a rabbit out of a hat sort of situation, they’re really good at. And their technical service even stands on the shoulders of their customer service. Really great company to be a distributor for. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend National Guard for any project.
