- a small amount of water with drops of dishwashing liquid (instead of oil/lubricant)
- Contact Cement (easily available at any hardware store) you will need about 4-5ml per injection.
- Disposable Syringe
- Huge syringe needle (I used #18 in this video but if you can get a bigger one it may be better)
*Cleaning tip – pump soap-water through the needle and plastic injector repeatedly to clean. They can still be used a few more times.
REPAIR REMINDERS : After injecting the contact cement in the ball, inflate it a little just enough to push some of the contact cement out thru the punctured or damaged part. Then, keeping the punctured part at the bottom slowly swirl the ball around to let the contact cement crawl or spread inside to make sure that the damaged part inside the ball gets covered/repaired.
I have experienced a few ball repairs where the damaged part inside the ball isn’t exactly parallel to what you see outside (there may be cracks instead inside), that is why you need to swirl the ball around with the injected part at the bottom to let the contact cement cover an area inside the ball.
IF!!, the problem is the basketball’s rubber valve it needs to be replaced but no one is stopping you from trying this system first. Right am I?
This system works for volleyball, soccer ball other rubber balls and air-bed/air-sofa.
For Beach ball, air-bed/air-sofa repair : After injecting the contact cement, pump a little amount of air but not too much as it will push all the contact cement out. Cover the punctured part with a duct tape, let the repaired item sit for a few hours (depending on how long the contact cement hardens) making sure the punctured/damaged part is sitting at the bottom. Once the contact cement is dry/cured you’re ready to put some air pressure in it.
Try this first before you buy a new ball, air sofa, beach ball or inflatable swimming pool.
Hope this helps you save some money.
