Make boxwork for concrete piers out of smooth-surfaced fibro cement board. (Don’t use assorted scrap strips of timber, etc, as moulding, because that will leave rough stripe marks.)
Put smooth side of fibro board on the INside of the boxwork.
Paint interior boxwork surfaces with a glossy enamel.
Line internal corners of boxes with silastic rubber. Smooth with (gloved) finger and let set.
Grease interior of box surfaces with car grease or oil. (We used SUMP oil !)
Make and pour best quality fine concrete according to instructions.
Punch down concrete mixture well, with crowbar or vibrator, paying special attention to the corners. This will help avoid air pockets.
After concrete is cured, remove boxwork and wash grease off piers.
Boxwork may be used more than once.
Thanks for watching.
SInce making this video, I have remembered that we used fibro cement board to make our boxes with. Masonite particle board would NOT be a good idea, as the water from the cement mixture would, most probably, make it all mushy and flakey; warped and ruined.
We also only used silastic silicone rubber to fill the corners of the boxes with. We did NOT use window putty. Putty may not work, for this purpose, as we did never try it.
