We had a forecast of rain and snow for the day so I got up early in the morning and split enough fire wood to last for three days. Thursday was supposed to be rainy as well so I had to prepare for the worst.
I got all the wood split and on the porch to keep it dry. It was full of ice. Early in the winter we had freezing rain and it seeped into all the cracks between the logs and then stayed there all winter. My tarp must have been blown off quite early in the year then.
I had to chop the ice off all the wood as I worked in order to help it dry out faster on the porch.
I also got out my circular saw and cut up some pallet scraps to use for kindling. This stuff bursts into flames quite easily and is great for fire starting.
I got a bucket full of twigs as well to get the morning fire going with.
So far I have been starting the new fire off the coals from the previous night’s fire every morning. I have had the heat going non stop for days and I am keeping it above 50 degrees in the RV at night and well over 65 during the day.
My batteries have warmed up above 50 degrees now too and are doing a lot better. The cloudy day did not help though and they dropped to 12.1 volts last night.
I used the rainy day to clean up inside the RV a bit and get some order in here. It was a mess from packing everything up for my trip to Australia. When I got back I had to unpack everything from the car and haul it back into the RV. I also had all my blankets and food packed up in plastic boxes to protect them from the mice. I am not yet finished cleaning up and straightening things but it is almost there.
I also spent some time installing my new LED lighting in the RV. The lights give off a nice warm light color. I installed one of the LED light strips over the chair where I sit every evening and another two above the entry door facing into the room.
The other three LED light strips I installed together in series on the opposite wall. This now makes the whole living area look like a normal living room in the evening. The brightness of the LEDS all together is equal to standard home lighting in this smaller space. I cannot say how it would look inside a larger room but they sure look nice in my RV living room. The area is lit up and very cozy looking now.
The front door and the porch are aligning themselves better now. The door opens all the way now with ease and had plenty of clearance from the porch frame. I still have to keep the black rubber pad off the floor under the door because it still rubs. I believe that will also settle as the ground thaws out.

Learn about aquaponics and aquavermiponics in the Philippines. As featured in Entrepreneur Magazine in the Philippines, Deo’s AquaVermiPonics is agriculture, aquaculture, and vermiculture in one!
Awarded The Shell Green Enterprise Award in 2012, Deo’s IBC tank system is available for sale and includes 1 growbed, 1 water pump, bell siphon, float tank, lahar gravel, 100 fingerlings, and 20 starting plants.
The tank works by pumping dirty water from fish tanks into a growbed where it filters the water, leaving fish waste in the bed. The fish waste becomes fertilizer for plants growing in the bed. An auto-siphon system cleans the water and delivers it back to the fish tank. Worms added to the growbed further biodegrade matter for fertilization.
Deo hosts regular free seminars in Santa Rosa, Laguna, where you can learn all about aquaponics and aquavermiponics, and also see his Nutrient Film Technique (NFT System) which he also sells. It includes 10′ x 3″ pipes, 1 water pump, and water supply fittings.
